A Note to Township residents and taxpayers Small changes have been made
to the Eagle Harbor Township Board. Rich Probst, Jr. has been elected
Supervisor for the township, and all other seats on the board have remained
the same. We will try to update this website as often as possible, and
welcome suggestions and comments to supervisor@eagleharbortwp.org. Upcoming Meetings at the Township Hall Regular Twp. Board 2nd Monday
of the month at 7:00 PM Always check the Channel 28
Link at the bottom left, to see what other happenings are in the works.
New Goodwill Recycling & Donation Center Goodwill
Industries has opened a donation and recycling center near the Airport. Since many people have asked about places to
recycle, we have posted their flyer for your convenience. Goodwill Recycling Flyer
2012.pdf As a general
reminder, we only take normal household refuse except on Junk Jettison
Day.Please help us to control costs
by adhering to this policy. Keweenaw
Trail Executive Summary Eagle Harbor
Township is a member of the Keweenaw Trail Committee. The Township is supporting their Keweenaw
Trail Executive Summary (1.4MB)
and applications for grants to implement this non-motorized trail. Interested people apply within!! We are always looking for people that want to be involved with township
planning and zoning. The Planning Commission works on the Townships 5 year
Comprehensive Plan and, reflected through that, the Zoning Ordinance. The
Planning Commission has regularly scheduled meetings throughout the year.
The Zoning Board of Appeals(ZBA) looks at issues that residents have with
interpreting the ordinance. The ZBA meets when necessary, to hear and decide
appeals on provisions of the Ordinance. Full time residents are the best fit for
these boards, but we’re pretty flexible. |
Updated Brockway Mountain Protected Many people do not know that the summit of
Brockway Mountain is privately owned. Through partnership with The
Nature Conservancy, Houghton Keweenaw Conservation District, Keweenaw Land
Trust, and the Copper Country Audubon, Eagle Harbor Township and private
donors alike have protected Brockway Mountain for public access in
perpetuity. The Township and our partners has raised funds and received
a MNRTF grant that allows the purchase of the property and associated closing
expenses. We have closed on the property on February 14, and thank everyone
for their support, with a special thanks to the current property owners for
their patience.

321 Center Street The Township board established a committee to look into the feasibility of
building a new fire hall, and/or a new township hall complex. The current
township office space was built in 1955, with the fire hall built in 1981, and has
been added on to several times to meet growing needs. The committee has had
two meetings, looking at needs and uses of current facilities, and examining
the needs and uses of the township in the future. Expect to hear more from this
committee; from updates to fundraising we will keep you in the loop. Would you
like to be involved on the committee? Send questions or comments to Marlin
Wingard at moetoof@cablemi.com or Jo Cauvin at jocauvin@yahoo.com or Rich
Probst at supervisor@eagleharbortwp.org. |
