The Township has been working towards establishing a Water Improvement Project.  Below are related documents that describe the extent of the improvement project.

Hearing Seminar

There will be a Hearing Seminar by Carol Rose Fouts & Kathryn Wyeth on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Eagle Harbor Township Hall from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Carol Rose has a profound hearing loss and is a Hearing Resource Technology Specialist with the Hearing Loss Association of America and is an assistive technology consultant with Hearing Applications, LLC. Junk Jettison Day

Junk Jettison day is scheduled for July 13, 2008 9am to 5pm.

User’s Solid Waste Fee must be paid in full in order to participate.  The first pickup or trailer load is free with the following exceptions:

 

·        All White Appliances are $5 except Refrigerators and Freezers which are $20.

·        Additional Pickup or Trailer Load $25

·        No Toxic or Hazard Waste, Paint must be dried.

 

EHT RESERVES THE RIGHT NOT TO ACCEPT ANY MATERIAL.

 

Eagle Harbor Twp Comprehensive Plan DRAFT

The Planning Commission has released the following Comprehensive Plan Draft for public review and comment.  Please take the time to read it and provide any input to the Planning Commission.  A hardcopy is also available at the Township for review.  There will be a public hearing this summer before this plan is Approved.

Eagle Harbor Twp Interim Zoning Ordinance

The Township Board at the February 12th regular board meeting adopted an Interim Zoning Ordinance.  It is available for viewing at the Township Hall at 321 Center Street in Eagle Harbor.

MI Residential Builders License Requirements and Unlicensed Activity Penalties

The State of Michigan has amended the MI Residential Builders License and the MI Residential Maintenance and Alteration License requirements.  Some of the changes are below.

·        All Corporations, including LLC, are now required to have all Qualifying Officers Licensed besides the required Company License.

·        Penalties for unlicensed activity has been increased to $5,000-$25,000 and/or 1 year in prison.  It is also a Felony if serious injury or death occurs with an increase to up to 4 years in prison.

As always, Individuals and companies performing residential construction, or a combination residential/commercial construction totaling $600 or more in materials and labor must be licensed as either a residential builder or a maintenance and alteration contractor.  Individuals or companies providing services totaling less than $600 in materials and labor or who are functioning as a subcontractor for a licensed contractor on a residential or combination residential/commercial construction project are exempt from licensure.

 

Michigan Compiled Law prohibits a person from conspiring to circumvent the licensing requirements of the state relating to persons who are to perform work on a residential building or residential structure.

 

Contractor Affidavit Forms must be filed with the Township by all contractors doing residential work in Eagle Harbor Township.

New Notice Of Special Assessment Hearing

TO ALL OWNERS OF THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBED LANDS:

 

All parcels within Township 59N Range 30W Section 31 and Township 58N Range 30W Section 6 EXCEPT for those parcels completely and wholly contained in the South ½ of the South ½ of Section 6 and the North ½ of the South West ¼ of the North West ¼ of Section 6, and the North West ¼ of the North West ¼ of Section 6.

TAKE NOTICE that pursuant to the provisions of Act 188, Public Acts of Michigan, 1954, as amended, the Township Board has tentatively declared its intention to proceed with the public improvements described as follows:

The public improvement of the Eagle Harbor Water System will include the construction of a new drinking water storage reservoir, new water mains and service lines, and replacement of existing water mains and service lines within the town of Eagle Harbor and surrounding area.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the Township Board has tentatively declared its intention to make such improvement and tentatively designated the above-described premises as a special assessment district against which the cost of said public improvements is to be assessed.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the Township Board has caused to be prepared plans showing the public improvements, the location thereof and an estimate of the cost thereof which have been filed with the Eagle Harbor Township Clerk, 321 Center Street, Eagle Harbor, Michigan, 49950, and are available for public examination.

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board will meet on Wednesday, the 9th  day of July, 2008, at 6:00 o’clock p.m., prevailing Eastern Time, at the Eagle Harbor Community Building located at 8276 M-26, Eagle Harbor, Michigan, to hear suggestions and objections to the public improvements and to the proposed special assessment district therefor.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that appearance and protest at this hearing is required in order to appeal the amount of the special assessment to the State Tax Tribunal if an appeal should be desired.  A property owner or party in interest, or his or her agent, may appear in person at the hearing to protest the special assessment or may file his or her appearance by letter delivered to the Township Clerk by 6:00 p.m. on July 9, 2008 and his or her personal appearance shall not be required.  The property owner or any person having an interest in the property subject to the proposed special assessments may file a written appeal of the special assessment with the State Tax Tribunal within thirty-five days after confirmation of the special assessment roll if that special assessment was protested at this hearing.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the Township Board may determine to proceed to make said improvement without a petition unless written objections to the improvement are filed with the Township Board at or prior to the Township Board meeting to be held on  July 9, 2008.  If written objections are received from record owners of land constituting more than 20% of the total land area in the proposed special assessment district the Township Board may not proceed to make the improvement unless it first receives a petition  requesting the improvement signed by the record owners of land constituting more than 50% of the total land area in the proposed special assessment district.

Keweenaw Coastal Wildlife Corridor Grant Proposal

The Township has partnered with The Nature Conservancy and the Keweenaw Trail Committee for a Coastal and Estuarine Land Conservation Program (CELCP) Grant.  The purpose is to establish a wildlife corridor and a portion of the Keweenaw Trail.
