Having
Trouble Downloading Files? The
links are working. There are many reasons why you might be having trouble.
The security settings on your system could be causing a problem. Some people
set them very high which does not allow scripts or ActiveX controls to
function. If your using Monzilla or one of the secondary browsers, many of
them do not support ActiveX controls which are needed. You also need Adobe
Acrobat Reader as well. Most systems come with this software installed.
If you do not have it you can download it for free from www.adobe.com. Sometimes, especially on a
dialup connection, traffic is heavy enough that the web server times out. Alternate
ways of Downloading Files? Some of the files on this web site are very large and take a long time to download. There is an easy way to download files so that the progress can be monitored. Mouse over the link of the file you want to download and right click your mouse. This menu is referred to as a context menu. In the context menu there should be an entry call “Save Target As…”. Select the save target as entry and you will be prompted with a dialog box for a location on your machine to store the file you are downloading. Take note of where you are storing the file you are about to download. After selecting a location a dialog box with a progress indicator will be displayed while the file is downloading. The down side of this approach is that if the connection (dialup or wireless) is dropped, the download will be lost and you will have to start over. |
Another approach is to use a download manager that can restart file downloads where the download was lost when your connection was dropped. There are many of them out there. Here is the file download manager that I use. It is freeware and if you use it, the Township does not assume any liability for its use. It is for Windows Computers only. fdminst-lite.exe Free Download Manager Lite 3.0 (2.1MB) Use the context menu as described above to download the installation program and then double click your left mouse button on it after the download finishes. If you have questions call me, I will provide limited support or the file in whatever form you can use. |
